No Poetry 03:30
Glitter glam, First week of fall. Laughter floating from high school stalls. Rock my world, As the books tumble and fall. Said a name, Gave a wink. Collective awe as you leave. Six foot four, Left me begging for more. Take flight through that back gym door. You saved the day with electric wheels. My head spins into that rhythm and reels. There's no poetry today, my dear. No poetry today, my dear. There's no poetry today, my dear. No poetry today, my dear. Carved promises in public pine, Don't you try to say you're not mine. Letter jackets and rumors swirl, Spread on perfume of perfect girl. Locker love isn't built to last, Word spreads quick after class. Hurry quick, Pass your heart in a note. “Be my bittersweet”, Is all she wrote. You said to say something beautiful. I should've said something beautiful before you left. You said to say something beautiful. I should've said something beautiful before you left. There's no poetry today, my dear, No poetry today, my dear. There's no poetry today, my dear. No poetry today, my dear. There's no poetry today, my dear, No poetry today, my dear. There's no poetry today, my dear, No poetry today, my dear. There's no poetry today, my dear. No poetry today, my dear.

Windswept ashes from the house that we grew up in, Trickle down the mountain on the howl of the southwest wind. And little sister with her ivory eyes, Spinning, twisting in the fire flies. It sounded in the summer, One could hear it ring through spring. As silent, distilled murmurs, Talking about us endlessly. Our houses hung as ashes, As our chimney stayed to fight the flames. But the kitchen window burning, Was all that would remain. Our photographs are curling, Corners churning in on frames, Overexposing all the moments, We'd soon forget that day. And suddenly we're flying, In cigarettes across the sky. We're burning to the filter, Escaping as they softly sigh. Just blame it on the meth head, Just blame it on us mountain folk. Our houses hung as ashes, And on our lives I hope you've choked.

Sister and brother, Born from another mother and father. Drifting through Texas, In a shabby El Camino, Her cousin had lent us. Sister and brother, Chillin' in the front seat, undercover. Shifting in our feigned sleep, Listening to the sixties hum over and over. This blizzard in West Texas, Left us stranded on the Moon, But Heaven helped us, In Sisikiyou County, While in line at Dairy Queen, When she found me. We're two young lovers, In a listless walk. Dodging ice particles, In the dark. We're two young lovers, In a listless walk. Dodging ice particles, In the dark. Mallory, will you marry me, When we get to Austin, And everyone freaks? Listen to that thunder, Create a ripple in the snow, We cower under. I'll walk you down the aisle, Of HEB when you're eight months with our child. With salaries and sound payments, You and I can fall in love again in Texas. We're two young lovers, In a listless walk. Dodging ice particles, In the dark. We're two young lovers, In a listless walk. Dodging ice particles, In the dark.

Burning bright, A silver sun spins in the sky tonight, As bodies rhyme, Trying to stay alive. Our champagne lives, Uncorked, it sent the night asunder. As shattered light, Poured down in sheets, Delayed by thunder. I was home. Where were you when disco ruled? Where were you when disco ruled? Sonic girls, Sound on and on like echoes, To silent boys, Still paralyzed with movement. In bathroom stalls, The better dancers clamour, For binge advice, And answers in the glamour. I was home. Where were you when disco ruled? Where were you when disco ruled? Where were you when disco ruled?
